Follow the adventures of the hounds and I as we explore the great wild west.
I'm so sorry to hear that Steve. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We know how difficult it is to lose a loved one.
Thanks Russ. I too remember when you lost yours and how they enjoyed those rides in the car with you.
Oh Steve - my heart breaks for you - so very sorry for your loss.
Our thoughts & feelings are with you Steve & we as well know the sadness of loss you are experiencing right now. When our best Pals are suffering & there is no hope left for recovery the kindest thing we can do for them is that one last & final act of love to stop their suffering & enable them to move on. Remember the good times even though right now those memories are hard to bring forth.
Thanks Al. The more I write the better I feel at times. Still a little up and down but the bloodhounds and Heidi help me move forward.
He was a very good boy. :(
He never ran off or away even with a powerful nose and a lot of curiosity. He never had separation anxiety and wasn't afraid of the loudest storms. He was laidback and his days were spent at his pace.
we just started reading but we are so very very sorry.....
Thank you. Stick around, things will eventually get back to daily photos and blog postings.
I am so very sorry Steve. I know how you must be feeling right now and my thoughts are with you. Rest in peace sweet Winston.Cat
We are so sorry for your loss.
Winston was well loved...we are sad with you.
Over the past day or two I have been amazed by the number of people that loved Winston ... all from a blog.
What can I say other than I'm so sorry.
Thanks Ed. No other words are needed. The times I am on the other side of something like this I never know what to say. Give Patches a hug and maybe an extra handful of kibble for her dinner today.
Sorry as well.
Oh Steve, I am so very sorry. He was a great dog and you treated him like a king.
Thank you. I was only treating him like he treated me. He was a great dog from the time I picked him up at 8 weeks old.
So very sorry to hear the news about Winston... He was such a great little guy, and I’m going miss him... Deep respect goes out to you and all who care for pets. It’s a very tough job sometimes...
Thank you. The joys of sharing a life with them outweigh the times that are tough. Probably the reason I have 3 hounds instead of just 1.
Hello, Steve . . . I'm sorry you had to let Winston go. May time soften your pain. -- Sue
Thank you Sue. I read your blog every time there is a new post. I remember feeling sadness when I read about Spike. Having dogs we love is hard during times like this ... but they are always worth it.
So truly sorry for the loss of one of your best friends; keep him close always in your heart.
Thank you Sheila. He will never leave me, I have no doubt about that.
I am so very sorry to hear about Winston. Prayers were given that he would be able to recover. As difficult as it was, you made the right decision and I am sure he was able to run across the Rainbow Bridge, pain free. Take care.
Thank you. They say you will know when it's time. His basset hound stubbornness probably kept him fighting to get better, longer than he should have.
Oh Steve, I'm sorry that Winston is gone. I've lurked for a long time and so enjoy your pictures and stories of the babies. I know nothing will make it better. You did everything you could and the love you have for all of your babies shines through. Please take care.
Ah Steve, So sorry to hear of Winston's passing. And such a tough situation for you and your other pups. You did your dead level best to help him and keep him going. He couldn't ask for more. He'll be waiting for you at the Bridge.Thoughts and prayers coming your way.Don in Okla.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I know you were expecting a different outcome than this and working so hard for him. Thinking of you. Take Care & God Bless
Thank you. I was certainly hoping for a different outcome. I was willing to do for him whatever it took but it was a tough task for him. He was long bodied and weighed a ton, although in good shape weight wise. He had his annual check just a couple of weeks before. Yet, that is one thing that can go bad on a Basset Hound and Dachshunds ... long bodies, short legs end up being bad backs. Thanks again.
Hi Steve, I am surprised and so sorry to hear this. I'm sure he will cross the Rainbow Bridge thankful for the love and care he received from you. Becki
Thank you Becki
Another lurker who is sorry for your loss of Winston. We love our four-legged family and that's the best we can do for them.
Thank you ... you are right.
So sorry to hear this sad news about Winston. Another of my friends lost his beloved Basset Hound a couple days ago. Nothing is harder in life than losing a beloved pet, but I know you will take solace in knowing you gave him an incredible life (as he did for you).
Thank you Lynne. It's never easy is it, even when we know that they are no longer suffering with pain and maybe confusion of not knowing what is going one with them.
Oh Steve I am so very very sad to read this. I was away from the computer all day yesterday and only just now checked on Winston. I agree with you, it obviously was time. Keeping Winston out of pain was the most important thing. So sorry for your loss. Keep those precious memories close to your heart.Hugs to all of you.
Thank you Contessa. Those memories will always be with me. I'm sure there will be times that the hounds and I will be walking through the field on a hot summer day ... when chills on my arm will appear ... knowing he is right there with us, still walking a this own pace.
Steve, I am so sorry to read of the loss of your trusted companion, Winston. I can't imagine how tough this must be, but I am glad to see you writing about it, as I think that is instrumental in not only capturing and keeping close the memories, but also helping in the healing process. Glad you have the love of the other "hounds" to help you through. Take care of yourself...
Thank you Suzanne. Yes, I have found writing has helped me feel better. Yesterday when I made the page for Winston with around a 100 photos for a "special" reader I have, I felt much better. The personalities of the two bloodhounds have definitely help me with coping. Made me laugh. Heidi just wants to sleep as usual and be fed. I'll keep moving forward. Yet, this doesn't compare with the losses you have experienced this past year. I read but didn't know what to say ... what can you say? Thank you for reading my blog.
I haven't been reading the past few days Steve, so sorry for your loss. I know how close we can get to our buddies.
Thanks Gary. It's hard not to get close to them. They crawl into your heart when they arrive and rip out your heart when they leave. I feel as worse today as I felt Tuesday morning. Seems like a lifetime ago and it's only been 3 days. I know eventually life will return to normal but it's going to take a very long time to get over Winston.
